St Andrews After Dark
St Andrews after dark owes a peculiar comfort. Deserted streets, Gothic spires, and flocks of squawking seagulls certainly don’t spell C-O-S-Y. Yet, despite the coast’s increasingly biting cold, a warmth can be found in St Andrews’ familiar midnight melodies. Walking down North Street is the Main Library’s stolid spaceship hum. On Market Street, there is an empty bottle clinking, lured from shop to shop by the wind, or a faint and dying party beat, trickling bored and costumed students out of doors. Go to the Scores and listen to waves crash against the castle walls. In the dead of night, as the town sleeps, St Andrews comes alive; devoid of crowds and cacophony, its buildings, streets, trees, wildlife, and squares spring out of the night and fill in the shadows.
